We cordinally invite you to visit the Out to Sea? Exhibition and learn about the plastic crisis and its impact on us and on the planet, discover the different types of plastics and methods to recycle and create your own artwork from plastic waste.

Darb 1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Center is organizing an interactive educational exhibition titled Out to Sea? at Bibliotheca Alexandrina between 15th of April till 26th of May, 2015. Book a trip now for your students or colleagues and experience the special journey of Out to Sea?.

Out to Sea? The Plastic Garbage Project is an environmental educational project that began at the Museum für Gestaltung Zurich (Museum of Design Zurich) in 2012. It has toured Europe and is now implemented in Egypt by Darb 1718. The project already took place in Cairo at Darb 1718 between September – December 2014 and is now hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The project in Egypt is supported by Drosos Foundation.

The project aims to create an educational experience to raise awareness regarding the hazards of plastic garbage in the sea through creating a learning museum. In addition, educational activities and art activities will take place to teach visitors different techniques on how to upscale plastic waste into beautiful and practical items.

The exhibition visit will include:
• Educational Tour
An educator will take the group through a journey: an interactive discussion on the definition of plastic, the different types of plastics, its impact on the food chain and the environment, alternatives and different ways of recycling.

• Educational Activities
Fun educational activities to enhance the information and skills gained during the tour.

• Artistic Activities
To apply some of the recycling methods, recognize the value of the remnants of plastic and interact with it.

The Exhibition age group is up from 9 years to 14 years old, with a maximum of 40 students per day.

Darb 1718 is an Egyptian non-profit organization founded in 2008 that supports, cultivates and sustains the burgeoning art scene in our country. Darb 1718’s vision is to create a strong public awareness campaign through the activities that will sensitize children and adults to their own usage of plastics and the effects this material has on the environment and, in turn, on themselves. The goal is to inform, motivate, and promote behavioral change through educational, artistic and fun community activities.
The project is supported by Drosos Foundation.
