About the film:

On the 25th of January 2011, thousands of people went down to the streets of Cairo to protest against violence and social injustice. Just three days later, that number rose to millions, and a people’s revolution began, larger and beyond anyone’s expectations. The uprising was intensely covered by news agencies all around the world; people everywhere, including Egyptians, were trying to understand and analyze that special moment. Between international reports and the chaos of the moment, stories were lost. Till today, we are trying to understand exactly what happened in Egypt starting on the 25th and onwards, and, most importantly, what caused people to respond in that moment.

Aperture is a 53-minute documentary that explores 7 specific events in the Egyptian uprising. The film encounters personal stories of individuals who were mentally and/or physically part of the uprising, and it strives to understand what these events meant to them. The film gives a quick, but intense, overview of the uprising. It examines the role of visual media in inspiring Egyptian youth to join the crowds. In 2013, how do Egyptians look back at certain incidents? How did they experience them, and how are they part of the story? The film emphasizes the process of change, and declares that the revolution is ongoing. With the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) now ruling in Egypt and the infuriated crowds roaring against them, Egypt is trapped in a viscous circle of violence, chaos and injustice.

In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels. Aperture refers to the cameras that recorded this continuous struggle between people’s demands and power-loving regimes. It also suggests that, although Egypt might be trapped in this vicious circle, Egyptians still believe and nonetheless see the light at the end of their journey.

دعوة لحضور عرض الفيلم الوثائقي "أبرتور" من إخراج علياء المصري يوم الأثنين ٢٤ يونيو ٢٠١٣ الساعة ٨:٣٠ مساءا.

عن الفيلم:

في ٢٥ يناير ٢٠١١ نزل الآلاف من الناس الى شوارع القاهرة للاحتجاج على العنف والظلم الاجتماعي. في وقت لاحق، ارتفع هذا العدد إلى الملايين، وبدأت ثورة الشعب، وفاقه كل التوقعات. وتمت تغطية الانتفاضة بشكل مكثف من قبل وكالات الأنباء في جميع أنحاء العالم، والناس في كل مكان، بما في ذلك المصريون، كانوا يحاولون فهم وتحليل تلك اللحظة الخاصة. بين التقارير الدولية وفوضى ا لحظة، ضاعت القصص. حتى اليوم، نحن نحاول أن نفهم بالضبط ما حدث في مصر ابتداء من ٢٥ وما بعده، والأهم من ذلك، ما تسبب الناس للنزول في تلك اللحظة.

"أبرتور"

هو فيلم وثائقي ٥٣ دقيقة يستكشف ٧ أحداث معينة في الثوره المصرية. الفيلم يعرض قصص شخصية من أفراد كانوا عقليا و / أو جسديا جزء من الانتفاضة، يسعى جاهد لفهم ما تعنيه هذه الأحداث لهم. الفيلم يعطي فكره سريعة، ولكن مكثفة عن الانتفاده. فإنه يفحص دور الإعلام المرئي في الهام الشباب المصري للانضمام الى الحشود.

في عام ٢٠١٣، كيف يتظر المصريين إلى حوادث معينة في الثوره؟ وكيف هم جزء من القصة؟ الفيلم يؤكد على عملية التغيير.

مصر في دائرة من العنف والفوضى والظلم مع حكم الإخوان المسلمين والحشود غاضبها ضدهم،. لذالك الفيلم يعلن أن الثورة لا تزال مستمرة.

"أبرتور" في البصريات، هي عبارة عن ثقب أو فتحة من خلالها الضوء يسافر. يشير إلى الكاميرات التي تسجل هذا الصراع المستمر بين مطالب الناس والأنظمة المحبة للقوة. وتقترح أيضا أنه على الرغم ان مصر محصورا في هذه الحلقة المفرغة، المصريين ما زالوا يومنون بهدفهم ويرو الضوء في نهاية رحلتهم.

During the 18 days of the Revolution we would sit in small circles around the square exchanging stories. Storytelling happened in the square every time someone recalled how he threw a stone at a police officer or how he took another bullet in his shoulder. After the 18 days, you’d get into a taxi and the driver would share his story about the 25th of January, or you’d go to a gathering of friends and every one would be sharing a memory for what seemed like the 20th time. We loved those casual storytelling moments; we loved them for the hope they gave us, for what they did to remind us of what we were part of, and we loved them most of all for reminding us of what we are capable of

A week after Mubarak stepped down and exactly on the 17th of February, 2011, we emailed the team: "Who’d be interested in telling stories from Tahrir?" And that was the beginning of Tahrir Monologues; a performance of true stories from the revolution and an attempt to document personal testimonies from the Tahrir squares of Egypt. These stories – our stories – won’t be published in newspapers or broadcast on TV or included in history books. The first performance was in May 2011, followed by more than 25 performances in Cairo, Alexandria, and El Minya, as well as a performance in Geneva in March 2012. The performances continued to be held in Cairo in August and November 2012

Two years later, a filmed performance of the stories about the 18 days was produced by Qabila and directed by Ahmed Abdallah (Director of 'Microphone' and 'Heliopolis'), in order to be screened on different platforms and made available to the public on our YouTube channel, in an effort to once again record the revolution from the lens of our personal stories

Our project began with collecting and documenting stories about the 18 days of Tahrir. With the goal of preserving the continues resistance that has happened since, the project will now start collecting and performing stories from the subsequent protests and strikes taking place in other places

Some live to forget but we live to remember. We used to tell stories to celebrate, now we tell stories to resist

The Revolution is not over, and the Tahrir squares of Egypt are not empty yet

دعوة لحضور العرض المـُصوَّر لحكاوي التحرير,  قصص وتجارب من ميادين التحرير يوم السبت ٢٢ يونيو الساعة ٧ مساءا في مركز درب ١٧١٨. (من إنتاج قبيلة)

الحكاية

خلال الـ ١٨ يوم كنا بنحكى حكايات طول ما إحنا قاعدين مع بعض فى الميدان. واحد يحكى عن الطوب اللى رماه على الضابط يوم ٢٨ يناير، وواحد تانى يحكى عن الرصاصة اللى دخلت فى كتفه … وبعد الـ ١٨ يوم كنت تركب مع تاكسى فيحكى لك حكايته يوم ٢٥ يناير، تنزل خروجة مع أصحابك تلاقى قصص بـ تتحكى يمكن للمرة العشرين! كنا بنحب نسمع القصص لأنها كانت بتفكرنا، وبتدينا شحنة قوة وأمل.

وبعد أسبوع من تنحى مبارك، وبالتحديد يوم ١٧ فبراير، بدأنا نسأل "مين يحب يحكى حكايته فى الثورة؟"

وهكذا بدأ مشروع حكاوى التحرير؛ عرض لقصص وحكايات من ثورة ٢٥ يناير وميادين التحرير. محاولة لتوثيق والتعبير عن تجارب لأشخاص عاديين لن يكتبها التاريخ أو تنشرها الجرائد أو تذيعها قنوات التلفزيون … أول عرض كان فى مايو ٢٠١١ … أكتر من ٢٥ ليلة عرض فى القاهرة، واسكندرية، والمنيا …. وعرض فى جينيفا فى مارس ٢٠١٢.. والعودة إلى القاهرة فى عرضين شهر أغسطس و نوفمبر ٢٠١٢…

وبعد سنتين، قامت مجموعة قبيلة بانتاج نسخة مصورة من العرض وأخرجها أحمد عبد الله (مخرج فيلمى ميكروفون وهيليوبيليس). حكاوى ميادين التحرير خلال الـ ١٨ يوم، ليتم عرضه فى أماكن مختلفة وتحميله على يوتيوب متاح للمشاهدة، ووثيقة للزمن تؤرخ الثورة من خلال مجموعة من التجارب الشخصية.

بدأ المشروع فى جمع وتوثيق وعرض حكايات جديدة بعد الـ ١٨ يوم … وسيبدأ المشروع فى جمع وعرض تجارب أخرى لمظاهرات واعتصامات فى أماكن أخرى بهدف توثيق الثورة والمقاومة بمفهومها الأوسع …

About collage art:

Collage art depends on cutting and pasting papers (magazines) and using acrylic colors.

This technique combines collage art with drawing and painting arts. It requires from the artist the ability to make important and quick decisions during the achievement of the artwork.

Workshop targets:

To open experimental approach that combines collage art and arts of drawing and painting.

To spread the spirit of interaction between the participants and the workshop organizer to gain ideas, and display their creativities and take advantage of tools and possibilities to access and distinguish artistic results suitable for an artistic exhibition.

About the instructor:

Hany Rashed’s artistic Journey begins in 1994 as a trainee in Mohamed Abla’s Atelier. His work expresses his take on “evolution” through Pop Art. The inevitable dominance of the west in the Era of Globalization has inspired him to see the similarities between man and insect in their ability to adapt to changes in their surroundings. Hany has participated in so many exhibitions from Cairo to Florence to the Tate Modern.

تتطلب من الفنان القدرة على إتخاذ قرارات مهمة وسريعة فى تنفيذ العمل.

أهداف الورشة:

فتح سبل للتجريب تجمع بين فن الكولاج وفنون الرسم والتصوير.

بث روح التفاعل بين المشاركين وبين منظم الورشة لاكتساب الأفكار، وعرض إبداعاتهم والاستفادة من الأدوات والإمكانيات المتاحة للوصول لنتائج فنية متميزة تصلح للعرض .

عن المدرب:

بدأت رحلة هاني راشد الفنية كمتدرب في آتيليه محمد عبلة في عام ١٩٩٤. تعبر أعمال هاني راشد الفنية عن "التطور" من خلال فن البوب. ألهمت هيمنة عصر العولمة راشد أن يرى التشابه بين الإنسان والحشرة في التأقلم مع المناخ المحيط. شارك راشد في العديد من المعارض الفنية في القاهرة وفلورنس و"تات مودرن" والمزيد.

مشروع المريخ – الميكروفون للجميع

يسعدنا أن نستضيف مشروع المريخ في درب ١٧١٨ بشكل منتظم في كل ثاني جمعة من كل شهر. فمشروع المريخ القادم سيكون يوم الجمعة ١٤ يونيو ٢٠١٣ الساعة السادسة مساءا في الجنينة الرئيسية في درب ١٧١٨.

مشروع المريخ هو مشروع يحتوى على عدد من المبادرات لدعم حرية التعبير عن النفس بين المصريين فى كافة ثقافاتهم.

يسعى مشروع المريخ للاستمرار والحث على روح التجربة والمغامرة والخروج عن المفاهيم المعتادة عن فصل الجمهور عن العارضين.

من ضمن المبادرات الحالية هو "ميكروفون المريخ" (عرف فى الماضى باسم عبرعن نفسك) حدث يقام بشكل شهرى فى القاهرة لاتاحة الفرصة للموهوبين والهواة للتعبير عن أنفسهم فى المجتمع.

Kegham Djeghalian, Le Fash-Yon Collective, in collaboration with PASHION magazine, present EXORCISING FASHION: THE NETWORK, on June 10th at 7.00 pm at Darb 1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Center, Cairo. The exhibition is on from June 10th to the 17th.

It is culmination of the fashion workshop offered at Darb1718, that addresses and contextualizes contemporary Egyptian fashion practice. This exhibition articulates the matrix of practices by the participating students, guest lecturers, designers and collaborators, initiated by the 55-hour workshop by Kegham Djeghalian at Darb 1718 last May 2013.

Ramzy Lehner and Heba Refaat will present an electronic sound and vocal performance at the opening day as well as some fashion branding interventions.

The exhibition will travel to Paris in September 2013 during Paris fashion week.

تحرير الموضة: شبكة الإنتاج

يقدم كيغام ديجيغالين مؤسس “فاشون كولكتيف” بالتعاون مع مجلة "باشون" المعرض الفني تحرير الموضة: شبكة الإنتاج في الفترة من ١٠ حتى ١٧ يونيو ٢٠١٣ في مركز درب ١٧١٨ للثقافة والفنون المعاصرة. يفتتح المعرض يوم الأثنين ١٠ الساعة ٧ مساءا في مركز درب ١٧١٨.

المعرض هو نتاج ورشة الستايلينج والأزياء التي أقيمت في مركز درب ١٧١٨. عملت الورشة على دراسة ممارسة الأزياء المصرية المعاصرة. يقدم المعرض تشكيلة من أعمال المشتركيين في الورشة بالإضافة الى محاضريين ومصممين أزياء والخبراء الذين قدموا خبرتهم ودعمهم للورشة. قدم الورشة الفنان كيغام ديجيغالين في شهر مايو ٢٠١٣ في مركز درب ١٧١٨.

وفي إفتتاح المعرض, يقدم رمزي لينر وهبه رفعت عرض موسيقي إليكتروني وغنائي وذلك بالإضافة لعرض  أزياء فني مختلف.

كما سيقام معرض تحرير الموضة: شبكة الإنتاج في باريس في سبتمبر ٢٠١٣ في أسبوع الأزياء العالمي في باريس.

Workshop dates:

Workshop is taking place on 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27, 30 June and 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 July from 6 to 9 PM.

Description of the Workshop:

1- During the first 2 days, participants are introduced on how to draw & execute patterns such as, plants & geometric motifs.With this training, the participants will come up with ideas for projects to work on during the workshop.

2- Professional and technical training on working with crafting, designing and processing a model to be implemented on a larger scale (ie. Copper dishes, boxes or accessories)

3- Learning the craft of engraving on strips of copper 20 x 20 cm.

4 – Learning how to hammer on copper foil 10 × 10 cm.

5- How to do the finishing by welding the copper and the techniques of oxidative coupling and polishing.

6- At the end of the workshop the participant can take 2 of the final products and to leave one piece to be exhibited in an art exhibition at Darb 1718.

Workshop is given in English and Arabic

About the instructor:

Abd El Hakim Sayed Abd El Hakim works as the Director of Foustat Traditional Crafts Center, Cultural Development Fund, Ministry of Culture. He is also a Member of the Syndicate of Plastic Arts. Abd El Hakim participated in establishing the Foustat Ceramics Center in coordination with the Ministry of Culture. He also participated in many international exhibitions like Cairo International Ceramics Biennale an  in the 2nd, 4th and 6th Youth Salon. He participated in establishing the Pottery Village, Old Cairo and in pottery developing program, Koum El Dab' in Qena. He is the deputy manager of the Egyptian Association of Pottery Innovation. Abd El Hakim participated in the International Festival of Traditional Crafts and their use in architecture, Arseca, Tunisia, in 2008. He was the Commissar of the traditional crafts exhibition in the Egyptian Cultural Center, Paris, 2008 and Exera Exhibition, Aiwa, Shanghai, in 2009. He also participated in the International Seminar for Environmental Tourism in 2010.

يتشرف مركز درب ١٧١٨ بدعوتكم للمشاركة فى ورشة التدريب على حرفة النحاس  يقدمها الفنان عبدالحكيم سيد عبدالحكيم أيام الأحد والثلاثاء والخميس في شهر يونيو ويوليو. حرفة النحاس من الحرف الهامة التي يستخدم فيها تقنيات كثيرة منها النقش والطرق والتفريغ.

مواعيد الورشة:

أيام الورشة: ١٦ و١٨ و٢٠ و٢٣ و٢٥ و٢٧ و٣٠ يونيو و٢ و٤ و٥ و٧ و٨ يوليو من ٦ حتى ٩ مساءا.

عدد ١٢ محاضرة مجموع ٣٦ ساعة

عن الورشة :

١. يتم التدريب لمدة يومين تدريب عام على الزخارف النباتية والهندسية مع توضيح خطوات التنفيذ والخروج من هذه التدريبات بمجموعة من المشاريع القابلة للتنفيذ.

٢. التدريبات الفنية والتقنية على الحرفة حيث يتم تجهيز التصميم المراد تنفيذه هندسيا بحيث يكون قابلا للتنفيذ من خلال تصميم علبة نحاسية او طبق او قطعة اكسسوار.

٣. يتم التدريب على حرفة النقش على شرائح نحاس ٢٠x٢٠ سم.  كل متدرب بواقع ٤ تمارين ويمكن استخدام تقنية التفريغ وفقا لما يتطلبه التصميم  .

٤. يتم التدريب على حرفة الطرق باستخدام رقائق من النحاس ١٠ x ١٠ سم بنفس التصميم او تصميم اخر يتم اختياره .

٥. كيفية الانتهاء من المنتج وتشطيبه باللحامات  وكذلك باستخدام اسلوب الاكسدة أو التلميع .

٦. فى نهاية الورشة وبعد الانتهاء من تشطيب كافة الاعمال للمتدرب الحق فى اخذ  قطعتين من اعماله يقوم باختيارهما وقطعة يتم عرضها فى معرض فني فى مركز درب ١٧١٨.

يقوم بالتدريب فريق من الحرفيين والفنيين المميزين الذين يعملون فى مجال النحاس بكل فروعه ولهم خبرة طويلة فى هذا المجال, تحت اشراف السيد عبدالحكيم سيد عبدالحكيم الذى له اسهامات كثيرة فى مجال الحرف التقليدية.

عن المدرب:

عبدالحكيم سيد عبدالحكيم هو مدير مركز الحرف التقليدية بالفسطاط التابع لصندوق التنمية ووزارة الثقافة. حاصل على بكالوريوس فى الفنون التطبيقية قسم خزف فى عام ١٩٩٠ وهو ايضا عضو فى نقابة الفنانين التشكيلين. قام بالمشاركة فى إنشاء مركز الخزف بالفسطاط بالتعاون مع وزارة الثقافة وشارك ايضا فى بينالى القاهرة الدولى للخزف و الدورة الثانية، الرابعة – السادسة لصالون الشباب. قام بالمشاركة في إنشاء قرية الفخاريين – مصر القديمة والمشاركة فى برنامج تطوير حرفة الخزف بكوم الضبع – قنا وهو ايضا نائب رئيس الجمعية المصرية لتطوير الخزف. شارك فى المهرجان الدولى للحرف التقليدية واستخدامها فى العمارة – أرسيكا تونس ٢٠٠٨. كان قوميسير معرض الحرف التقليدية فى المركز الثقافى بباريس ٢٠٠٨ .وايضا قوميسير لمعرض اكسيرا بمدينة أيو بشنغهاى ٢٠٠٩ .شارك فى الندوة الدولية للسياحة البيئية بمدينة باليرمو بايطاليا ٢٠١٠.

Portrait and Figure Making Course in June/July

A call for participation to join the Portrait and Figure Making course taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from each week in June and July from 6 to 9 pm. The course is given by the renowned sculptor Nathan Doss and the course will be taking place at his premises next to Darb 1718.

Workshop Dates:

The workshop takes place on the 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29 of June and 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13 of July.

Total Number of sessions: 12 session (6 session Portrait Making and 6 session Figure Making).

Portrait and Figure Training Program:

General information about the raw materials used in sculpture and its nature.

Choosing the model and drawing its sketches.

Making the karikaz ( the iron skeleton)

Molding and clay phase and how to build the Portrait  and figure on it.

Portrait  and figure study phase ( Face ratios and details and the symmetry details in the  Portrait making – muscles anatomy and clothing in the figure making )

How to turn it into a final product through the work of an internal vacuum and then move to the firing phase.

Note: Final product is a Portrait  and a Figure.

Workshop is given in English and Arabic

Workshop fees: EGP 1430 including the material and the final product.

Tools required: Canson Sketch and pencil

NATHAN DOSS

§  He was born in Mallawy on 21 January 1971 – He has the Bachelor Degree of The Facult4y of Fine Arts and Education in 1993 – A member of Cairo Atelie for Writers and Artists – A founding member (Treasurer) of the Egyptian Society for Developing and Improving the Pottery Industry – A member of the Plastic Artists Syndicate – A Member of The National Society For Arts.

§  The Prized of Rateb Seddik in Sculpture.   The prize of vacancy of the year 2004 – 2005.  The Prize of Sculpture at the small pieces saloon in 2003. The prize of sculpture of the fourteenth youth saloon.

كورس نحت بورتريه وفيجر في شهري يونيو ويوليو

يتشرف مركز درب ١٧١٨ بدعوتكم للمشاركة فى ورشة التدريب على فنون نحت البورتريه (الوجه) والفيجر (الجسم)  يقدمها الفنان ناثان دوس فى ايام الاثنين والأربعاء والسبت من كل اسبوع فى شهري يونيو ويوليو ٢٠١٣ من الساعة السادسة حتى التاسعة مساء في ورشة الفنان ناثان دوس فى المبنى المواجه لمبنى مركز درب ١٧١٨

طريقة عمل كاريكاز ( العصب الحديد)

مرحلة وضع الطينة وكيفية بناء البورتريه والفيجرعلى الكاريكاز

مرحلة دراسة البورتريه والفيحر ( نسب الوجه والسيميترية وتفاصيل الوجه – تشريح العضلات والملابس فى حالة الفيجر )

كيفية تحويله الى منتج نهائي من خلال عمل فراغ داخلي للبورتريه او الفيجر حتى ينتقل لمرحلة الحريق

ملاحظة: المنتج النهائى سيكون بورتريه او فيجر من الطينة المحروقة.
