The 8th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako was held in November 2009, under the artistic direction of Laura Serani and Michket Krifa. These unique encounters in Africa offer a platform of visibility for emerging African photographers and videographers.

Visitors to the exhibition discovered a panorama of contemporary African creations that features photographic slides of 40 artists and a series of 13 videos on the theme of ‘Borders’.

The exhibition showed the interpretations and representations from African artists on the paradoxical and highly important issue of borders in a world that extols their demise while erecting walls to protect them.
