May 9 / May 30 – 2009

Through this exhibition, Aida Muluneh explores Ethiopia through her personal accounts of a country she returned to after a thirty year absence. Growing up in various parts of the world, Aida's relationship to Ethiopia has been marked by nostalgic sentiments fostered by her mother. However upon her return to her home in 2007, she realized that the romance of the faded 9 memories is sometimes a catalyst to a deeper understanding of a country she knew through childhood memories. Each of her visual encounters has a personal layer that reflects the longing to recollect the familiar while questioning her own identity in relation to the lost years. NOSTALGIA is therefore a collection of images that showcases a return to a society juxtaposed between the past, present and the future.
